Rare Books Interest Group

The Rare Books Interest Group (RBIG) was formed in May 2002 as a Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium interest group composed of librarians, curators, and staff who represent academic, public, and special libraries, and, of bibliophiles and those interested in the book arts. The purpose of the group is to provide a forum for members to share ideas and information about rare book matters and collections with each other, expand their knowledge and reference capabilities regarding rare books and the history of books, and to educate the public-at-large about collections in the SWON Libraries area.

RBIG creates and maintains databases on a variety of topics relating to rare books and the history of books, including links to member sites and to worthwhile sites beyond the SWON Libraries area. The interest group also develops programming on rare books, including exhibits both virtual and real; lectures; and workshops for the continuing education of both adults and children, and for SWON Libraries members.

New members are welcome at any time. Meetings are held on a quarterly basis from September to June at a repository, library, or other location of rare book interest in the Greater Cincinnati area. Co-conveners share responsibility for planning and organizing the meetings, which are facilitated by a designated SWON Libraries representative. The co-conveners serve on a voluntary basis for two-year overlapping terms.

If you have any questions about our group or would like to join the mailing list, please contact the SWON Libraries Office.
