History and Archives Interest Group (HAIG)

Welcome to the History and Archives Interest Group (HAIG) Webpage. HAIG was organized in 1989 as an interest group of the Greater Cincinnati Library Consortium. The group is composed of librarians and archivists who represent academic, public, and special libraries in the Greater Cincinnati area. HAIG members meet three times during the year to share ideas and information and to learn about area historical resources and local historical collections. We welcome new members at any time.

Meetings

Meetings are open to any interested person. At meetings we share news and information, discuss current and upcoming projects, learn about other collections, and get to know one another. HAIG meetings are held at a different library or archive and usually conclude with a tour of the facility. Among the locations we have visited for recent HAIG meetings are: the Cincinnati Art Museum Library, the Mercantile Library, the Cincinnati Municipal Reference Library, the Proctor and Gamble Archives, the Cincinnati Fire Museum, and the Butler County Historical Society.

Meetings are conducted by co-conveners who share responsibility for planning and organizing the meetings. Co-conveners serve on a volunteer basis for a two-year term, with the term of each person overlapping. Co-conveners must belong to a SWON Libraries institution. Planning, organization, and communication are facilitated by SWON Libraries staff members.

Projects

HAIG has been an active group during its existence. We have compiled and published four resource guides, co-sponsored a third publication, and organized three public workshops.
