Direct Lending Policies

Obtaining Materials

Persons wanting to borrow loanable materials directly from other SWON Libraries contributing members must provide a valid SWON Libraries borrowing credential and photo identification card. With this identification, persons may borrow materials directly from SWON Libraries members, at the discretion of each member library and subject to each library’s local policies.

Direct borrowing patrons must agree to the following conditions:

  1. A SWON Libraries borrowing credential and authorized photo identification must be presented upon request.
  2. Patrons are subject to loan periods, fines, and policies imposed by the lending library.
  3. Patrons who borrow items directly from other SWON Libraries members are responsible for costs or fees incurred, including damage or replacement fees.

Returning Materials

  1. The patron is responsible for returning the items by the date due and in good condition. If possible, it is highly recommended that items being returned close to the due date be renewed by the patron to avoid overdue fines.
  2. The borrower may return materials to the nearest SWON Libraries member. Items will then be sent to the home library through the SWON Libraries delivery service. The SWON Libraries Office contracts with a vendor for either regularly scheduled stops or on-call stops to pick-up and deliver ILL or Direct Lend materials. Please see the SWON Libraries website for instructions on using the service.
  3. Each Direct Lend book should be stamped or noted on a piece of paper that it is a Return with the date it was received in that library.

Member libraries agree to cooperate in the recovery of unreturned materials within the legal limitations and in accordance with their own policies.
